The big advantage of the Tauern Roundtrip is to start and finish in Salzburg (airport). Along the river Saalach you cycle past Zell am See and Mittersill to the spring of the river Salzach and follow this river back to Salzburg.
Start in Salzburg, via Reichenhall (Germany) and Lofer to Saalfelden along the Saalach.
After the Lake Zeller See the Tauern Cycle Path is reached and the last stage to Krimml is covered.
Tip: Up to the inn Ronachwirt, from there an easy hiking tour into the spring area of the river Salzach in the National Park Hohe Tauern start.
Back to Salzburg on the Tauern Cycle Path along the river Salzach.

After Bischofshofen you reach the medieval town Werfen with the old fortress. Higher up but well worth the brief hike are the world biggest ice caves. Via Pass Luegg you pass to Golling and Kuchl. In the salt town Hallein the famous Celtic museum and the Silent Night Museum can be visited.
You cross the river Saalach on the new cyclist bridge near Wals-Grünau into the direction of Bad Reichenhall.

Highlights of the Saalachvalley are the caves of Lamprecht and the Seisenberg gorge.
