From the high Alps to river Danube

To have it all - wild mountain scenery of Karwendel through typical Upper- and Lower Bavarian landscapes to lovely Danube river valley - easy access via airport Munich - along the green waters of river Isar - that is the Isar cycle path in a nutshell.
The tour starts in Scharnitz inmidst a grand mountain scenery of the Karwendel and Wetterstein. Either by bicycle or a hiking tour up to the spring of Isar is a special experience. Surrounding the spring is a great mountainbiking area.
Grand varied scenery accompany you during your ride to Scharnitz, Mittenwald and on to the Sylvenstein reservoir.

Now the gentle emerald green hills of the xxx prevail, which are then xxx by the soft Isar meadows around Munich. Many cultural points of interest are passed: picture-book Upper Bavaria in Mittenwald and Bad Tölz, the great city Munich and architectural jewels as Freising and Landshut.

Worth mentioning is a great medieval spectacle, the "Marriage at Landshut". This sophisticated festival of the Middle Ages remembers the marriage of count George the Rich with the polish princess Hedwig in Landshut in 1475. This marriage united the christian Occident. Next date: June 25th to July 17th, 2005. For more information visit the website www.landshuter-hochzeit.de.

Generally the tour follows rough country- and forest lanes, gruelled side roads or asphalted roads, all easy to ride. Please note, that the Isar-Cycle Path is not signposted through to the mouth of Isar into Danube. We recommend to use additional maps. Bikeline cycle book "Isar Radweg" is unfortunately only available in German language, anyhow very detailed maps make it worth buying.
