INN-CYCLE TRAIL II

ca. 310 km
Innsbruck: ca. 580 m above sealevel
Passau: ca. 310 m above sealevel

From steep mountains to the the gentle hills of the Lower Inn!

The alpine metropole Innsbruck, has a worldwide reputation of being a city of Universities and the Olympic wintergames. Important sites as the medival Golden Dachl, the royal castle, the baroque Dome, the Wildener Basilika, are worth visiting. The Renaissance castle Ambras invites to travel back in time.
If you already travelled the Inn cycle path from St. Moritz to Innsbruck, you are fully aware of the beautiful mountain panorama encircling Innsbruck. The cycle path follows the river on it's banks or meanders through the valley of the Inn. The path is flat, following signposted cycle paths, sandy or gruel roads, on the banks or on the damms encasing the river, through tranquil and natural landscapes.

If you want to leave your car near the end of your tour, we can recommend the baroque town Schärding. Here free of charge parking on public parking areas are available. For further information please contact the tourism office (+43(0)7712/4300-0).

Passing the cities Hall, Wattens, Schwaz and Wörgl the famous town of Kufstein is reached. Interesting in Kufstein are the galeries on the front of old buildings, characteristic for the towns on the Inn.

After passing Kufstein on the foots of the idyllic mountain panorama of the Wilden Kaisers the Inn crosses the border to Germany. And here it is Bavaria that welcomes you. Cities as Rosenheim, Wasserburg, Mühldorf and Altötting are the most renowned cities in Upper Bavaria. Mountains and hills covered with dark green forests, little water runs tumbling down from the heights, little old farm houses, as well as the good Bavarian beer is associated with Upper Bavaria.

When you reached Altötting you should make up your mind, if you want to proceed on the Bavarian or the Austrian bank of the Inn. Here the "European reservate Lower Inn" forms a bird resort of highest intenational reputation.
In Passau, the Three-river-city fare well is bidden from the Inn, which joins the greater floods of the Danube.

For anybody wanting to continue the cycle holiday, the Danube Cycle Trail is the natural choice.
